Bridgwater and Taunton Canal
An easy access route where history and wildlife abound.
A picturesque waterway passing through lowland Somerset with areas of historical interest and natural beauty, the canal forms part of the Sustrans cycleway route 3 and is an excellent cycle route between Taunton and Bridgwater.
There are some sections of the canal where walkers and anglers are given priority with the towpath left unsurfaced. Here, cyclists are directed onto adjacent quiet minor roads, but the majority of the route is off-road. Most of the towpath is surfaced to suit cyclists and further work is planned to improve this easy access route following the canal through attractive countryside.
There are bike shops in Bridgwater, Langport and Taunton. Cycle hire is available from Six Cycles and Kings Cycles in Taunton, and Bow Bridge Cycles in Langport.
How to get there:
There are train stations in Bridgwater and Taunton.
Taunton is easily accessible from J25 M5. Bridgwater is easily accessible from J24 M5.
You can find some further information on the canal on the Somerset County Council website.
